Though there are many alternate dimensions, and over the eons some have faded while others sprang into being, each has its own set of rules similar to the laws of nature of our world. These are some of the more famous/infamous ones. Each realm is a mirror of our own world, altered to fit its own reality.
Among mindbenders, there is a fierce debate as to whether denizens of other realms should be considered living creatures, and some interact with such denizens as fellow beings, while others treat them as figments to be killed on a whim. There are even a few mindbenders who conspire with denizens, in some cases as traitors to their own species.
The Fey Realm is one of the oldest, strongest dimensions to overlap our own. It appears as an excessive growth of vegetation and mist, as if nature ran wild to reclaim our own world. In areas of untouched wilderness, mindbenders sometimes have difficulty telling which is our own world and which is Fey. Due to the high greenery, oxygen levels are nearly double that of earth. Fey Magick is analogous to mindbending, but tailored to the Fey Realm (denizens tend to understand the laws of their own Realms better than those of others).
Pixies, fairies, elves, goblins, and all manner of creatures from fairy tales dwell in the Fey, in addition to the typical flora and fauna of Tennessee. NW of Nashville is a hilly region of forest W of Whites Creek (including Beaman Park, more than 1,700 acres in size), within the Marrowbone neighborhood of Nashville. In the Fey Realm, these forests (known as Marrowbone Wood) are the domain of the woodkin, intelligent humanoid denizens with little interest in the mortal realm.
Perhaps borne of the fears of humanity (or perhaps that fear is an instinctual memory of this dimension), the Shadow Realm is dark, with a sense of danger lurking everywhere. Shadows prey on the fears and terror of mortals, with some of the more powerful ones pushing madness and death. Every denizen is a predator, perfected to stalk and hunt prey in the darkness.
There are many realms that fall under this category, including the astral realm. Though the denizens of such realms may insist they have always existed, historical accounts of past mindbenders suggest these dimensions formed alongside the establishment of religions. Given that the strength of these dimensions is proportional to the number of believers in a given area, many believe this to be the case. Some have almost entirely faded away, though if they cease to exist or are simply cut off from our world is a subject of much debate.
There are many similar dimensions, each a "heaven" of a particular range of religion (Christian, Muslim, Pagan, Classic, etc.). Though some denizens of the Heavens serve as guardian angels for select mortals, others take a darker stance, seeking to punish sinners or purge the world of wickedness as they see it.
Some of the most dangerous denizens come from these twisted dimensions: demons and devils seeking the ruin of mankind.
Several realms fall into this category - twisted, apocalyptic versions of earth, and in recent decades their strength and influence have been growing. For every sort of popular fiction of an apocalypse, there is a dimension that corresponds, further lending evidence that the mass of humanity may be subconsciously creating these dimensions.
Magicks and mystical arts hold sway in this realm, full of energies and spells. Once the most powerful of realms, this dimension waned in recent centuries but is beginning to see a resurgence. Within the last century, it gained sufficient power for the rulers of this realm, Magisans, to grow in power that rivals that of the gods of the Heavens.
Arcane Magick is analogous to Mindbending, tailored to the Arcane Realm. By mortal standards, it is a flashy, vulgar form.
One of the oldest, if not the oldest of realms, all who treasure their sanity avoid this realm. Its denizens evoke psychosis, and seek to break the minds of others, spreading their own insanity to other realms. One of the more powerful realms, a few of its denizens do participate in the Conclave, but there are few foolish enough to trust such denizens.
Reality Warp, used by every denizen of this realm, is analogous to Mindbending. It is a natural talent that brings the nightmares of such denizens into their surroundings.
