The 2798 Squadron joined the 2nd Tactical Air Force in 1944 and were aligned with the Americans when landing on Omaha Beach in Normandy. They were also one of the 1st British Units into Paris when it was liberated. Ray took photos with his own camera as he travelled across Europe including his time at the Travemunde sea base on the Northern German Baltic coast. The book covers Ray's time with the 2798.

Alf Kirk was a member of the Loyal Lancashire Regiment. He was taken prisoner by the Japanese Empire in Singapore on the 15th February 1942 when the British Empire forces surrendered. He was held at several POW camps during the next three and a half years, including Keijo in Korea and Kobe House and Motoyama on the mainland of Japan. This is his story of survival.
