Summer Reading and Map Project

SUMMER READING FOR AP EUROPEAN HISTORY

Welcome to AP European History. I'm really looking forward to getting to know each of you this year. I have put together the following books and assignments to prepare you for the beginning of your challenging course in Advanced Placement European History. Remember A.P. European History is a college level course, and while it is more fun than you can stand, it is a lot of work.

Please read before the first day of class the following:

I. For the Late Middle Ages Chapter 2, pages 49-55 in Palmer-Colton A History of the Modern World 11th Edition

II. For the Italian Renaissance and Humanism The Prince by Machiavelli, chapters 7-8, 17-19

III. For the collapse of Yugoslavia and the fall of communism, Read pages 1011-1016 in Palmer-Colton, A Histoy of the Modern World 11th Edition and A Coin by Alexander Hemon (pdf on site)

IV. For the fall of the British Empire pages 925-933 in Palmer-Colton, A History of the Modern World 11th Edition and Shooting An Elephant, by George Orwell (pdf on site)

V. For understanding geography of Europe create ONE map of Europe from either 1492, 1555, 1648 or 1815, please label the countries and their capitals. The map should be on posterboard, colored, and labelled. (This project may take up to 4 hours).
