Establish Baseline (data)

Once the critical academic need has been properly set in context, the first phase is to collect baseline data before the implementation of the intervention. This is done to give us a reference point to determine the efficacy of the intervention. It answers the question, "how do we know our intervention worked?"

The data we must consider include test scores such as the CST scores, CAHSEE results, GPA, SAT attitudinal surveys for student, parents, teachers, and staff. Are there correlations between variables? What do the data tell us?

What do the walk-throughs tell us? What can we learn from the CFGs? "Practioner action research translates this type of informal questioning of practice to one or more intentional and systematic inquiry that lends itself to problem solving..." (Anderson, Herr, & Nihlen, 2007, p.60).

Much guidance and assistance will be provided by the site-based data guru and the Assessment and Accountability Focus Group. An assessment plan has been developed for a consistent collection of relevant data.
