Camp Highlights

2026 Band Camp was held during the weekend of 13th to 15th March at Galston Gorge Crusaders. We had in total 117 students and 27 parent helpers, out of which 78 Senior and Intermediate Band students stayed overnight. On Saturday and Sunday, members of the Training Band joined as day campers for their first band camp experience.

Unlike the challenges of previous years, the weather for the 2026 camp was absolutely spectacular. The days were cool yet sunny with no rain, allowing the children to balance their intensive rehearsals with plenty of group play outdoors. In early mornings and after tutorials/rehearsals, the students enjoyed the fresh air and natural beauty of the site, which provided a perfect backdrop for building friendships and collective memories.

Beyond music, our camp traditions continued to thrive. The students enjoyed a talent show and games night, and our Year 6 cohort celebrated their Saturday night with a party exclusive for them. They were also greeted by a Farewell Tunnel of Arms on Sunday, a tradition that honors them as they finish their final band camp.

The weekend concluded with a wonderful concert that showcased the incredible progress made in just three days. The Training Band gave their first performance together as a band featuring "Hot Cross Buns", "Jingle Bells", "Donkey Round", and "Beethoven’s 9th". The Intermediate Band impressed the audience with "Celtic Air and Dance No. 2", "Mamma Mia", and "Skeleton Dance", while the Senior Band delivered an outstanding performance of "Arabian Dances", "Cantina Band", "The Best of Queen", and "Brass in the Basement".

A massive thank you goes out to all our parent helpers, both new and returning, whose hard work made this camp a resounding success. We would like to extend a special note of gratitude to our ex-Band Manager Michael Chung, who came to assist the program even though his children have already graduated from Epping West. It is this spirit of service that ensures our band community lives on, with each generation of the committee successfully passing the baton to the next.
