Description
Engage students with mobile devices in the physical collection space at the CLC Grayslake Campus library.
Objectives
Encourage self-guided exploration and interaction with the collection at the CLC Grayslake Campus library in a way that would be accessible to a variety of users with varying levels of technology skill. Work within a limited budget and limited staff resources.
Project Details
Recent survey data revealed that most library visitors had access to a smart phone or other mobile device. Although dedicated library catalog search computers were included in the book stack space, they were underutilized.
I created QR codes which linked to the mobile version of the library catalog site then placed them in shelf clips at the start of each row. Some QR codes went to a general search page, others went to dedicated search results based on the section the visitor was currently in. This allowed the library to promote other items related to a topic that might not be shelved in the same location.
