Bellin College Returning Student Online Orientation

Description:

Bellin College hosts a mandatory all-day orientation session for returning students in the fall semester of their sophomore, junior, and senior years. This practice had become time consuming for both staff and students. The returning student online orientation was developed with the objective to streamline information delivery while keeping the high-touch feel that the College is known for.

Objectives:

This project was planned during spring 2016 to rollout for fall 2016 with the following objectives:

• Mandatory completion by 100% of the student body by August 22, 2016
• Flexible, self-guided e-learning for student participants
• Streamline presentations and documentation created by staff
• Promote underutilized tools and services and enhance engagement with activities

Project Details:

A team was identified to discuss objectives of the project. I took the teams recommendations and developed a Canvas course including navigation, graphics, and activities. Activities such as quizzes and assignment dropboxes were utilized to track student interaction and determine course completion. Students who do not finish by the deadline will automatically be prevented from accessing Fall 2016 courses in Canvas via settings in the LMS.
