Expected Results

I. Publication of four articles on causal relata and downward causation, substance causation and mental causation qua downward causation (hopefully, in international A-journals). More specifically, the articles will be respectively devoted to:

I.1. a critical evaluation of J. Kim’s argument against downward causation, considering different accounts of it;

I.2. a detailed account of substance causation and of substances’ causal powers, that could deal with some objections that are typically presented against it;

I.3. an account of downward causation and emergence (the emergence of causal powers and of substances belonging to new natural kinds) in terms of substance causation;

I.4. an account of mental causation qua downward-substance causation.
