The concept of a Google group, known as a listserv, is to connect larger numbers of email users. Sending an email to the listserv address will send an email to everyone who "subscribes", or signs up. It is much easier than trying to remember a lot of people's email addresses, putting them in your email individually - and, inevitably, missing someone when you hit send.
It is also efficient in that you can delete the email you receive from your own account, but it will stay on the group's email account. You can then visit the group at any time if you want to reference an email on the listserv.
If you have a Google account, (and are signed in to it), you can point your browser to: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/elhs68 Once there, you will see this screen:
The emails on the listserv are shown by most recent first (at the top). You can see as of this writing there are 442 topics, or leading emails, with separate subjects. Clicking on any topic will allow you to see the original, and all the response emails, in a fairly easy-on-the-brain layout.
Each response to a topic is called a post, and once you have clicked on a topic, posts appear in order of submission, starting with the first at the top, and ending with the most recent at the bottom. Often, in our personal email accounts, things aren't so orderly. In this view, on the listserv site, you can easily see who sent the post, and when, and read the posts themselves in a time-linear fashion.
Also, note that the site is private. One must be signed up to the group to be able to see it. If you are receiving ELHS68 email, you are signed up, but if you want to access the Google listserv on the website, you have to acquire a Google account.
This is important to know: you do not have to actually use a Gmail account.
To log in to your Google listserv, click on this link. You will then be able to choose your Google account, or, if you don't have one, you can follow the prompts to set one up. Google accounts are free, and you will not be compelled to use Gmail, nor will you receive any promotional messages.
