PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- It's easy to lose faith. That's where Peekskill resident Maureen McElheron's new book comes in.
McElheron is the author of "There Is a God!", a new book that gives people of all denominations 1,001 reasons to believe.
McElheron will be at Barnes & Noble at the Cortlandt Town Center on Friday, Nov. 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. signing copies of the book. Barnes & Noble will have also a performance by the Lakeland and Walter Panas Music Departments during the signing.
Some of the miracles McElheron and co-author Richard Smith give as reasons to believe include watching your little girl struggle with an ice-cream cone that appears bigger than she is, fireflies on a June night and knowing that your ability to explain the difference between hollandaise sauce and béchamel impresses the hell out of your date.
"We thought it'd be good to diffuse the tension over religion," McElheron said. "Let's break down barriers and make people feel good. I thought it'd be a good stocking stuffer."
McElheron described the book has being heartwarming and fun and not being deep and philosophical.
"It gives you a chance to sit back and reflect on all the fun reasons to believe," McElheron said. "We're very excited. It's the perfect gift book if someone is in the hospital or needs cheering up."
McElheron has had a busy life, writing music for cartoons, including Cartoon Network shows and also teaching public school. She has lived in Peekskill for seven years.
"The book brings a smile to your face," McElheron said. "It's not about a certain religion, it's about what unites religions. People have really enjoyed it."
