Constellation: Sagittarius
Distance: 10,400 Light Years
The brightest globular cluster visible in the northern hemisphere, although harder to see and less well known than The Hercules Cluster due to its low altitude. Only 2 globular clusters visible from the Southern Hemisphere, Omega Centauri and 47 Tucanae, are brighter. Approximately 70,000 stars are packed into a space of about 100-200 light years. Globular clusters are ancient structures, with M22 estimated to be 12 billion years old.
