Abell 33 is a planetary nebula composed mainly of doubly ionized oxygen (OIII), imparting its blue color. At a magnitude of only +12.9, it is difficult to see using a telescope. It is spherical in shape due to the absence of spin of its central star. The bright star at its lower right, HD 83535, is a foreground star not associated with the nebula, with the happenstance alignment giving the pair a resemblence to a "diamond ring".
