2. Pre-Austronesian influences

Basic words shared with pre-Austronesian suggests that Old Middle Yangtze and Old Lower Yangtze formed a linguistic area with each other by at least the late Neolithic, and may have started influencing each other since as other as the early Neolithic. Pronoun resemblances (k-/m-) and sharing of some sporadic basic words (bird, die/kill, drink/smoke, this, shoot, body louse) are also phenomena noted among Altaic (Turkic, Mongolic, Tungusic) languages.
