Seeing AI Mobile App Basic Guide
The Seeing AI app is available for iOS devices (iPhone or iPad). To get started:
Go to the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
Search for Seeing AI and download the app.
Open the app and allow it to access your camera and microphone.
Seeing AI offers several "channels," each designed to help with different tasks by using the phone’s camera to capture visual information.
Short Text
Read Text Instantly: This feature reads any text that is detected by the camera in real-time.
Point your phone at any text (such as labels, signs, or documents), and the app will immediately start reading aloud without taking a photo.
Document
Read Full Documents: Capture a full page of text and the app will guide you to position the document correctly before processing the text.
Once the entire document is captured, Seeing AI will read it aloud.
It also provides voice prompts to help you adjust the camera’s position for the best scan.
Product (Barcode Scanner)
Scan Barcodes: Identify products by scanning their barcodes. The app uses audio cues (beeping sounds) to help you locate the barcode.
Once the barcode is scanned, Seeing AI will announce the product’s name and provide additional information if available.
Person
Recognize Faces: This channel helps you recognize people by providing details like estimated age, gender, and facial expressions.
You can also save familiar faces by capturing a photo of the person and saving their profile.
Currency
Identify Currency: This feature helps identify different denominations of banknotes. Simply point the camera at the currency, and Seeing AI will announce the value (e.g., $20, $50).
Scene
Describe Your Surroundings: Capture an image of your environment, and Seeing AI will provide a general description of the scene (e.g., "a person sitting on a chair").
Color
Detect Colors: Point your camera at any object to hear its color described (e.g., "red," "blue").
Handwriting
Read Handwritten Text: This channel allows you to capture and read handwritten notes, cards, or other types of written materials.
Light
Detect Light: Seeing AI can detect the amount of light in your surroundings and translate it into sound. A higher-pitched sound indicates brighter light.
Reading Short Text:
Open the app and select the Short Text channel.
Point the camera at any text. Seeing AI will read the text aloud as soon as it is detected.
Scanning and Reading Documents:
Select the Document channel.
Hold your phone above the document and move it according to the app’s guidance to capture the full page.
Seeing AI will read the document aloud once the scan is complete.
Scanning Barcodes:
Select the Product channel.
Point the camera at a product barcode, and the app will beep faster as you approach the barcode.
Once detected, the app will announce the product’s name.
Recognizing People:
Select the Person channel.
Point the camera at a person to hear information like their age, gender, and facial expression.
You can also save a person’s face for future recognition by taking their picture.
Identifying Currency:
Select the Currency channel.
Point the camera at the currency bill, and Seeing AI will announce the denomination.
Scene Description:
Select the Scene channel.
Point your camera at any scene, and Seeing AI will describe what it sees.
Change Language: Go to Settings within the app to change the language for text reading and voice output.
Adjust Voice Speed: You can adjust the speed at which Seeing AI reads text under the Voice settings.
Change Channels: Swipe left or right to switch between the different channels.
Some features, like Short Text and Currency Recognition, can be used offline without an internet connection. However, other channels like Scene Description require an internet connection for better accuracy.
Ensure Good Lighting: Good lighting can help the app recognize text, objects, and faces more accurately.
Use VoiceOver: If you are an iPhone user and have VoiceOver enabled, Seeing AI integrates well, offering spoken guidance as you navigate through the app.
Point and Adjust: For best results, especially when reading documents or scanning products, make sure the camera is steady and the object is well-centered in the camera frame.
