Biography
Héctor Ríos was born in México D.F. in 1984. He received a BSc degree in Electric and Electronic Engineering, MSc and PhD degrees in Electric Engineering, Automatic Control, from "Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México" (UNAM) in 2008, 2010, and 2014, respectively, under the supervision of Profs. Leonid Fridman and Jorge Dávila. From 2014 to 2015, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Non–A team at Inria Lille center (as the winner of a postdoctoral fellowship for ARCIR (Conseil Region Nord-Pas de Calais) in the ESTIREZ project from Inria Lille center), working with Profs. Denis Efimov and Laurentiu Hetel; and from 2015 to 2016, as a postdoctoral fellow in the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, University of California, Santa Barbara, working with Prof. Andrew R. Teel. Since October 2016, he is a CONAHCYT Research Fellow with the Instituto Tecnológico de La Laguna, Torreón, Coahuila, México.
Héctor Ríos has served as a reviewer for many international journals (Automatica, IEEE Trans. on Automat. Control, Int. J. of Robust and Nonlinear Control, etc.), and many international conferences (IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, IFAC World Congress, IEEE/IFAC American Control Conference, etc.). He has authored or co–authored more than 150 publications including journal articles, book chapters, and conference articles; he has participated in 20 research projects; he is part of the National Researchers System in Mexico – SNII Level II; a member of the IEEE Conference Editorial Board and IEEE Senior Member. He is also serving as an Associate Editor for IET Control Theory & Applications, International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, and Nonlinear Analysis: Hybrid Systems.
Research Interests: His professional activities have been concentrated on the observation of linear, nonlinear, and hybrid systems; fault detection, isolation, and identification problems; sliding–mode control and its applications; stability analysis of impulsive systems, homogeneity–based stability; control for constrained systems; and robust control for unmanned aerial and ground vehicles.
