Héctor Ríos was born in Mexico City, Mexico. He received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering (Automatic Control) from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in 2008, 2010, and 2014, respectively. From 2014 to 2015, he held a postdoctoral position in the Non–A team at the Inria Lille Center, France, as a recipient of an ARCIR (Conseil Régional Nord–Pas–de–Calais) postdoctoral fellowship within the ESTIREZ project, working with Profs. Denis Efimov and Laurentiu Hetel. From 2015 to 2016, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he worked with Prof. Andrew R. Teel. Since 2016, he has been an SECIHTI Research Fellow at the Instituto Tecnológico de La Laguna, Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico. 

Héctor Ríos has authored or co–authored more than 190 publications, including journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers; he has participated in more than 20 research projects; he is a Level II member of the National System of Researchers (SNII) in Mexico and an IEEE Senior Member. He has served on the IEEE CSS Conference Editorial Board and as an Associate Editor for IET Control Theory & Applications, International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, Nonlinear Analysis: Hybrid Systems, and the International Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing.
