Facedown often happen before combat, particularly with kids – “battles get won before a shot is fired The eyes meet and he knows that you are willing to pay the price in blood – his, yours, it doesn’t matter. You’ve committed” —Morgan Blackhand
A facedown is the parties squaring off and sizing up to intimidate each other and see if one side will back down. In the case of groups, rather than a dozen rolls, the GM will pick the “leaders” of each group at the time (which may just be the person who is at the front/being most aggressive).
In general, there will be a facedown any time there is “talking that descends into violence”. If you just kick the door in all guns blazing, there isn’t time to stand about and puff your chests up…
A Facedown is an opposed COOL + Fearless leader check. The loser is at -2 to all attacks against the winner. If they lose by 10 or more, they must make a COOL check to kick off at all.
Guardians also add their special ability to their roll.
Adults roll COOL + Intimidation + Reputation.
In an opposed staredown, fearless leader gets halved.
Reputation is a 1-10 rating of how famous that particular person is. Where 1 is not at all, and 10 is worldwide. Most goons will be rep 1, the local head of BuReloc who has appeared in the media a few times will be 4, Morgan Blackhand is 8, Jonny Silverhand and President Whindam have 10
