Symbol of the Kingdom of Casea
Once the pinnacle of science and technology, the great floods wiped all but the hardiest life from the island. These monsters now rule the land and only the bravest adventurers dare visit. The treasures to be found are exquisite and can make someone rich for life but the dangers are more than equal to the value. Monsters of all sorts wander the isle, especially among the ruins. Tales tell of savage goat-men, giant insects, and hordes of ravenous undead. Rumors say that something even worse lives in the city of Loritan. A constant storm hovers over that city and none that explore it return.
Explorers often come to the isle, taking the black ship that makes a trip once every two weeks. It makes a constant business due to herbs that grow near the port. The gatherers on the ship grab the herbs, while the ship makes some extra coin by transporting hopeful treasure seekers to the isle. As the ship only arrives once every two weeks, the explorers either have to quickly find something of value in the heavily picked over port or go inland. Surviving to return to port and catch a ship is the challenge in which few treasure seekers succeed.
The Rava Coast Trading Company has often made overtures to the Ravaleian government about taking military action to clean up the isle and expand Ravaleian influence. For now, no such expedition has yet begun. However, the riches are quite tempting to the mercantile guild. They do not, however, have any ties to the black ship that transports people to the isle.
It is said that in the days when Casea was at its peak, it deliberately had two languages. One was the language of the high born nobles and other important courtiers. The other was the common tongue of the people. The language of the nobles died with the destruction of the isle. Few survivors of the flood knew that language well and used the common tongue. It was the tongue of the “men of the shores” as the nobles called them, or Rava. The Ravaleians were more than happy to make that their main language after the failures of the nobility in Casea.
