The Second Age of Doulairen was quickly dominated by a powerful race of beings that called themselves Elves. Their magic subdued all that they saw. They made themselves immortal and worked to even control fate. When their powerful divinations told them of terrible things, they used their powerful magic to avoid it.
However, as the world had been created by a deity of fate, those fates were merely forestalled. Soon, more and more terrible things came to be seen in the future. To avoid terrible fates, the elves would have to choose the lesser of two evils. In the end, they saw that their world would be destroyed no matter what they did, so for once they took the worse of the evils, allowing the world to enter into a second apocalypse, every bit as terrible as the one that had ended the First Age.
So of these elves survived the apocalypse, as did some of the dragons who had passed down their knowledge of the horrors of the First Age. The deity of fate then brought new life to the world again, to start the Third Age. Only now, the elves had learned of him, and given him a name. They called this deity Faerlynn.
