Semester Start

Below are a few Blackboard reminders for the start of the upcoming semester:

    • If you wish to copy content from a previous course site into a new course site, see Copying Content for step-by-step directions.

    • We will NOT share your course content with anyone else. Only those with official access from the Registration system get automatic access. However, you can provide another user (faculty or student) with access to your course site if you so wish. NOTE: Be sure to select the role of 'Guest with Instructor Abilities' if the user you wish to add needs editing access. Selecting this role ensures that they are not associated with the end-of-course evaluation process.

    • By default Blackboard course sites will automatically become available to students on the official start date. If you wish to make your course site available to students earlier, click on Customization > Properties > and modify the start (and/or end) date under Course Duration prompt. NOTE: The email feature is fully functional even when the course site is unavailable to students.

Additionally,

    • Courses are date driven, organized by term. If the course has yet to start, you'll find it under 'Upcoming Courses' (right hand side). Courses that have ended, can be found by clicking the big back arrow (left hand side) or using the drop-down in the center and selecting the term.

    • You can customize which courses appear at the top your list by clicking on the star icon to label it a favorite.

    • HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Students (and faculty if you so wish) can enroll in a self-paced, hands-on orientation to Blackboard. Upon successful completion of several “try it” activities, participants have the opportunity to access and print a certificate of completion. See Getting Started with Blackboard / Online Orientation for additional details.
