Record Attendance in Blackboard Learn

Being able to record attendance has been a highly-requested feature. With the new Attendance tool, you can mark whether a student is present, late, absent, or excused for each class meeting. The attendance records for each student appear in a single column in the Grade Center, instead of having a column for each session. On the Attendance page, profile pictures appear so you can easily identify students (if they have added a photo to their Blackboard Profile). You can use attendance as part of calculating grades just as you can for an assignment grade column.

To get started with the Attendance Tool, go into any course site you are an instructor in and click Course Tools > Attendance. Complete the prompts that follow in order to set up the tool for your particular grading scheme. IMPORTANT! PLEASE NOTE: Only click on the Attendance Tool if you intend to use it. Once you click on the tool, Blackboard assumes you wish to use it and will automatically add the column into your total calculations based on the options you select. It is a bit cumbersome to later decide you do not want to capture or calculate attendance as part of the grading scheme.
