End of Semester Items to Note
Below are Blackboard related items to note as the semester comes to a close:
Student Access to Course Sites
By default, student access to course sites will automatically become unavailable to students 14 days after the official end date. If you wish to make your course site available to students longer, click on Customization > Properties > and modify the End Date under Course Duration.
NOTE: If you have a student(s) taking an incomplete, you will need to adjust your course site's availability. See Modifying Access for additional details.
Grading in Blackboard
Enter Zeros for Missing Assignments
Check your grade center and make sure that you have zeros entered for missing assignments (anywhere students didn't submit an assignment). If you don't enter in a zero for these missing assignments, students could have an inflated grade that does not accurately represent their grade in your course. You can also use the 'calculate as running total' setting which will automatically calculate anything without a grade as a zero, but this isn't the default setting.
Categories for Weighted Grades
If you weight grades, be sure you have all columns designated in categories correctly. You can see breakdown of graded items in corresponding categories by clicking on Full Grade Center > Manage > Categories.
Extra Credit
If you provide extra credit opportunities, be sure you set the total possible points as zero to indicate additional credit earned if completed, but the item is not graded.
