Policy related to copying course content from another instructor’s course
Refer to Delaware Valley University’s Intellectual Property Policy Manual for complete details on Intellectual Property.
Since the ownership and use of online materials is often questioned by faculty, the Ad Hoc Distance Education Committee recommended the following “rules” regarding ownership and use of faculty materials in electronically-mediated courses.
Course content cannot be copied or used without the developing instructor’s permission.
Each faculty member is expected to develop his/her own online courses unless a department develops a course as a collaborative effort among several instructors.
Collectively-developed courses (developed by the department in conjunction with several faculty members) can be used by other faculty
If faculty members wish to protect their intellectual property, they should copyright their own work, particularly if it is truly unique.
These rules are not meant to conflict with any policies set forth in the Intellectual Property Policy Manual, but are instead to be used as our policy for online course content.
