Online Orientation

The Online Orientation to Blackboard is a self-paced tutorial of Blackboard that is intended to expose faculty members to the most widely used functions of Blackboard. The orientation is divided into 2 parts.

Part 1: Experience Blackboard as a Student

Faculty members will complete the same online orientation (20 minutes) that is provided to DelVal students. This orientation includes several hands-on activities for students to learn Bb functionality that are commonly used by faculty at DelVal. This experience allows faculty members to get a sense of how a Blackboard class may be designed and which tools are utilized. In this orientation, students (faculty) will learn:

• How to log in

• How to find your course

• How to find your syllabus and other content

• How to move around Blackboard

• How to use the Breadcrumb Trail

Exams

• How to take an exam

• What to do during an exam

• What NOT to do during an exam

Assignments

• How to submit assignments to Blackboard Discussion Boards

• How to access a discussion forum

• How to create a new thread

• How to reply to a thread

Part 2: Course Creation in Blackboard

This second part of the orientation provides video demonstrations on how to use the tools that were covered in the student orientation. Links to videos for additional tools are also available. The functions covered include:

• How to upload a syllabus and other content into Blackboard

• How to create an exam or quiz

• How to upload questions into a test pool

Assignments

• How to create assignments in Blackboard

• How to grade submissions and provide feedback to students

Discussion Boards

• How to create a discussion forum

• How to grade discussions
