Make sure you have the most recent version (see the Release History page to check).
If you have an earlier HUD, accept and wear the update you were given when you attached it, or request a redelivery from any in-world Deciduan vendor (they're linked to Marketplace).
You activate the HUD menu by clicking anywhere on the HUD. The HUD tries to display a dialog that's most appropriate for the time. If there are no opposite-gender avatars nearby, the main menu will appear. Otherwise, a dialog will appear appropriate to your current state (e.g., to allow you to couple, orgasm, etc.), with a "<Menu>" option that opens the main menu.
The main menu may contain any of these options (some will not appear depending on your gender or current state):
Instructions - takes you to the Deciduan HUD web site
Female/Male - (Herm HUD only) Change primary gender
Submissive - Yes, this option is present for both genders!
This option can be toggled between enabled and disabled. When enabled, there are two key changes to the HUD's behavior, regardless of your viewer's RLV setup (if available):
You'll automatically accept coupling requests from requestors who are within two meters (2m).
Unless you initiate coupling, you will not have the option to decouple.
Additional features are available if you use an RLV-enabled viewer. See "Submissive Mode" under the RLV features for more on this.
Womb - (Female/Herm HUD only) Configure "womb" options.
Preserve - (Female/Herm HUD only) Save a backup of your current female state (this is already performed periodically)
Restore - (Female/Herm HUD only) When you select this option, you'll be presented with a list of states according to the last time something changed. This is generally only useful for the last couple of states, as it effectively rolls back changes (e.g., whether you've conceived, have had a partner, etc.).
On the female/herm HUD, you can tell your cycle status by the color of the text above the HUD:
Coupling The HUD must be told when you've "coupled" with another avatar. This is not Second Life "partnering" -- it simply corresponds to a single encounter.
Coupling is a process that was first introduced by the Deciduan Couples HUD. It's meant to create a more-realistic experience by requiring partners to indicate when insemination is actually possible. Some "acts" involving male climax would not result in insemination, so coupling should only be initiated during an act where conception is a possible consequence. Obviously, there's no reason why a couple can't couple their HUDs earlier, or as an aspect of certain types of role-play, so this is simply a guideline.
RED - menses
PURPLE - fertile period (ovulation may occur any time)
GREY - neither fertile nor menstruating
The HUD offers a sensor to simplify the "coupling" process. The HUD emits a short-range "beacon" that indicates its state to compatible HUDs. Together with a basic sensor, this facilitates identification of nearby partners. When you first enter the range of a compatible HUD user, the empty heart will "pulse" momentarily, then remain with a glow as long as there are users in range.
The HUD support automatic acceptance of coupling requests from certain partners. When a partner attempts to couple with you, just choose "Auto". You will be coupled, and the next time that avatar attempts to couple with you, you won't be prompted to accept. You can revoke this choice whenever you are coupled with the same avatar; just click the HUD and choose "NoAuto" to remove the avatar from your acceptance list. You will have to click again to actually decouple.
Additionally, if you enable submissive mode, your HUD will automatically accept coupling requests from avatars that are in very close proximity to you (about 2m).
The HUD allows coupling when you are within 10m of your partner. You can tell when a prospective partner is near: the opposite-colored heart will pulse with a glow briefly, then remain glowing when another HUD user of the opposite persuasion is nearby.
Coupling may be initiated by either participant by clicking on the HUD. The initiator will see a menu of avatars within ten meters who appear to be of the opposite sex. Simply click the appropriate one.
The other partner will be prompted to confirm coupling (and must do so within about 10 seconds). This is automatic if the partner has activated submissive mode, or specified automatic coupling with the initiator. Once coupling is confirmed, the HUD will indicate this by filling in both hearts, and will issue a message to both participants.
Mating is straightforward. If the male partner has an Aeros, Xcite!, or recent Midnight Lotus genital, orgasm will be detected. Otherwise, the male partner must click on the HUD and select "Orgasm" to indicate that he has done so. Unlike other systems, this event is always indicated by the male. The female may indicate that she has had an orgasm, as well, but this obviously does not result in insemination. It does, however, participate favorably in the conception odds for a short while.
Either partner may terminate coupling by clicking on his or her HUD and selecting the "Decouple" option. Partners will also automatically be decoupled if they move more than ten meters from one another (or if one partner disappears for any reason) for more than about 30 seconds.
