Blood Wizards. The clan Tremere began with Mortal Mages, true Mages, who desiring eternal life created an elixir to turn them into vampires. Unfortunately it also caused them to lose the magic they wielded as mortal men. The wizards quickly turned to using the Vitae to wield magic, and though different and not as potent, was found to be quite versatile.
Clan and House Tremere is incredibly insular, with an archaic, rigid, and cutthroat system to power and advancement.

A quirk of the blood potion. All Tremere's blood is slightly less addictive than other vampires, and all tremere find themselves able to become bound by vitae much easier. It takes twice the drinks for a tremere to blood bind someone, whereas if a tremere sips another vampire's blood they are immediately jumped to the second level of the blood bond.
Additionally, upon embrace all Tremere are blood bound into the Pyramid.
Political Affiliations
Anarch
Led by Aisling Sturbridge, there are a few Tremere Anarchs. They mostly exist because they're too much of a hassle to get rid of and take pains to not interfere with the clan. (i.e. they dont teach blood magic, don't embrace, dont attack camarilla chantries, etc)
Camarilla
The Tremere are one of the pillars of the Camarilla, most of the clan is found here and it is a mighty thing.
Independant
Some Tremere elders will break their bonds and go rogue. Powerful as they are there's not much that can be done to stop them. The parent clan begrudgingly turn a blind eye so long as they aren't flagrantly embracing or teaching others blood magic.
Sabbat
Led by Goratrix, the Sabbat tremere are not as numerous but are still a mighty force. They are made up in fairly equal parts of newly embraced vampires as well as defectors.
