Using Google Maps/Earth with Project Learning Tree

KACEE Mapping Workshop

Introduction to Google Maps and Google Earth

We will explore ways to use these powerful tools to expand on Field, Forest and Stream (PLT p.203) and Mapping Your Community Through Time (PLT Secondary Places We Live p.49). You will be able to use information from these exercises to create collaborative maps in Google Maps and to expand your skills by using the many tools and Galleries in Google Earth.

To get started, please make sure you are logged into your Google Account so that you can access Google Maps and Google Documents. And make sure that you have Google Earth installed on your computer.

Field, Forest and Stream

Students can enter data directly into a Google Spreadsheet or upload an Excel Spreadsheet to Google Spreadsheets.

Or you can create a form for them to enter data into. You customize the questions, and you can add hints or help tips to the questions.

Forest, Field and Stream

Data that are entered into a Google Form appears in a spreadsheet, with all of the answers collated into a single spreadsheet with time stamps. You can make the form either public or private, but the answers in the spreadsheet will only be viewable by you.
