First i have to say that i'm very heavy on brakes.
I brake a lot and i'm very sensitive to what's going.
Most of my drivibg at go-kart type tracks or canyon roads which according to many are more demanding than a proper track.
So i guess my expirience can tell you a lot :-)
Rotors
I've put fronts from Centric PREMIUM.
After 15,000 km they proved themselve good.
When you order note that those babies are heavy - pair is ~30 lb (~15 kg) !!!
Pads
After not very good expirience with Hawk HP+ at my previos Miata i don't even look at HP+ or HP.
At my first Miata i used Axxis Ultimates and liked them a lot - price is similar to OEM (Hawk is twice as expensive :-\ ) and they never faded on me. True that they squeak and dust and eat rotors a bit - but all i care is stopping power.
Fortunately Axxis Ultimates are available at many web stores - but in fact they'e almost impossbile to get.
The brand has been changed from Axxis to PBR - but even under this name i couldn't aquire them....
By mistake seller sent me Stoptech Street Performance pads:
Those are the only type from Stoptech for OEM S2000 calipers.
Long story short - i didn't like them at all:
- they dust a lot
- they start to fade quite quickly and pedal becomes more and more spongy
- Stoptech's technical support responses didn't look very reliable
On the upside:
- they don't squeal
- even when brake pedal fades completely and goes all the way down - some stopping power is still there
- they're cheap - a bit cheaper than OEM
Basically - you get what you pay for. They're probably OK for daily street driving - but for sports driving they're way too weak...
Next pads i tried were EBC Yellow Stuff - and i like them:
- they bite good
- very good fade resistance under heavy load (they never faded on roads where Stoptechs and Hawk HP+ were always done)
- they don't dust at all. i repeat - no dust AT ALL
- they're not very expensive (~190$ for front and rear set)
On the downside - they seem to be a bit hard on discs - but nothing hysterical.
I've done already close to 6,000 km on them and i like them so much that i'm going to buy them again.
And to remind you - i'm very heavy and demanding on breaks....
i was opposing EBC for years bacuase i've seens a lot of bad expirience reported by others - but it seems that they've changed the compounds. At least for Yellow they sure did. And works very good now.
The combination of fade free and dust free keeps amaze me - this is how free of dust Yellows are - ~600 km with 3 long canyon runs:
To compare - my buddy with stock pads had front wheels very black because of brake dust...
