Mazda MX-5 Miata NC read dif differential LSD manual gear oil fluid change redline
The Croc-Machine #2 done ~15,000 km - and there is no better time to make sure it got right transmission fluids !!!
Having very good expirience with Redline MT-90 in Croc-Machine #1's aging gear it was a no brainer to go Redline again.
It also is much easier to get locally. And by "easier" i mean only 2 months waiting :-\
Anyway, this is my Redline lineup:
2.5 quarts of MT-90 will go into the gear box (6 speed manual)
A little less than 1 quart will fead the LSD
The job itself is pretty easy. It even can be done without lifting the car high.
Gear oild pumping tool is highly recommended.
So, how the original oil came out?
Gear oil looked quite good - still relatively clear and redish. The plug also was almost clean.
The diff oil looked not that good - it was not transparent at all with a very grey color:
I remember that synthetic oil in the Croc-Machine #1's LSD came out after ~100,000 km yellowish but pretty clear - my mechanis even said "it looks so good that there probably was no need to replace it".
So it's was hard to say why this one looks so not cool - whether it's due to wear or maybe a moly?
A drain plug actually says it all:
I'm glad i gave to the LSD a clean good oil :-)
Does it feel any different?
I certainly don't feel any difference at the rear end. But who would?
In gear box i do feel a bit easier getting into gears - especially downshift to 1st. But really not night and day difference.
All in all gears are smooth 95% of the time and draw very little attention during downshifts to 2nd and no attention at all during downshifts to 3rd, 4th and 5th.
I'm happy :-)
