New for 2022 - We are using the cottage more ourselves this year. I have not listed the cottage for rent this year, but will still rent to returning guests. If you have stayed before, we may be able to accommodate your request, so send me an e-mail.
We would meet you at the cottage when you arrive and explain how to use the propane and solar devices, water and waste facilities. The cottage is off the grid, with no hydro electricity or treated running water.
Arrival time between 3 pm and 8 pm, although this can be modified by prior arrangement if possible. You are welcome to arrive before 3 and go for a swim, but please be aware that we may not be finished tidying and the previous cottagers have not been asked to leave until 11 am. Please keep in touch - an earlier arrival time may be more convenient for all! A few days before you are due to arrive, please let us know your approximate time of arrival. We live in North Bay, not at the cottage, but will be waiting for you at the cottage.
Departure time is 11 am. We expect that the cottage will be left as you found it, requiring only minor cleaning.
IMPORTANT: This is a wilderness cottage with all the inherent dangers of lakes and nature. You are responsible for you own safety with respect to natural phenomena while at Cranberry Sky Cottage. This is a private, individual cottage, with no caretaker on site, or available, so you are responsible for your own comfort and safety during your stay. The cottage would best suit people with some camping and wilderness experience. It is ideal for young families who would like a little more comfort and convenience for their children than a camping trip would afford, or for older families who would like the same for themselves!
You may need to go to Mattawa (23 km) to buy additional food supplies during your week, so we ask that you dispose of garbage in town when you go to keep the cottage clean. Please do not throw food scraps (meat or vegetable) into the bush, it attracts bears. We do not compost at the cottage so as not to attract bears. Vegetable scraps could be buried at the edge of the field.
