Set in the Boreal Forest, a stay at Cranberry Sky Cottage provides beautiful scenery and opportunities for viewing wildlife in natural habitat. The trails are great for exploring, bird-watching, hiking or photography. See moose and deer in the woods, watch beaver swimming and hear frogs singing at dusk, and catch sight of fireflies as they dance in the dark.
Spend your holiday off the grid at lovely rustic Cranberry Sky Cottage on Harrington Lake, where you can enjoy incredible sunsets, glimpse the northern lights, and experience remarkable stargazing. Get away from it all and enjoy boating, swimming, sunbathing, fishing, hiking, campfire, badminton, horseshoes, board games, mountain biking, bird watching, family time……
Have the camping experience with the comfort of beds, a kitchen and an indoor play area for rainy days, as well as a private beach! The cottage would best suit people with some camping or wilderness experience.
Cranberry Sky is ideal for nature lovers, with several kilometres of bush hiking trails leading to a unique bog lake (300 m away) and old logging roads and trails on 1000’s of hectares of adjacent crown land.
Use the canoe and peddleboat provided, or bring your own boat(s). A small motorboat launch is located 300m up the lake beside the highway, and there is easy launching for canoes/kajaks/paddleboards at the cottage. Trip around the lake or take a short portage to the next lake for longer paddling adventures. Explore the shoreline for animal prints and aquatic wildlife or just drift in the peddle boat or canoe. The 5 km long Harrington Lake has excellent fishing, especially for pickerel and perch. The convoluted shoreline and islands offer wonderful possibilities for exploration. Only 8 cottages on the lake, all on the south arm, with the rest of the lake uninhabited.
The cottage would be a great holiday destination for families with children! Sleeps up to 6 in the cottage, with a double bed, queen bed and 2 single beds in 3 bedrooms. Children will love the sand beach for building moats and castles, with shallow water for wading and catching creatures. The water gets deeper about 50 m further out for swimming.
Our family has enjoyed all of these activities over the past few years at Cranberry Sky Cottage, but you will probably come up with your own!! We have decided to share the cottage some weeks of the summer since we find we are not using it as much as our children transition to young adults!
Area activities include golf, 300 km of voyageur multiuse trails, historic Mattawa, Voyageur Days music festival, Samuel de Champlain Provincial park, Canadian Ecology Centre and horseback riding. Mattawa is 24 km to the south and North Bay is 65 km to the west.
2023 - We are using the cottage ourselves this and not renting it out
