Contributing

Everyone has things they do or know about that could be useful to the group as a whole, or to other individuals, and the mailing list is ok but it's not going to be as permanent as this could be. What I have put in is just to give an idea, it isn't meant to define how we'll use it. Explore; there are lots of possibilities. I hope this will become a useful thing with a lot of contributions.

Help pages are available. When not in editing mode, click the "more" button at the top right, and from the pull-down menu select "help". That can be useful but also too much. Sometimes it's best to just create a page, call it "test something or other" and then save it and play with it.

An Exercise

Earlier versions are backed up and retrievable so don't worry about wrecking the site. If you're not sure what to do, you can practice; just add a new page (the create new page button above) and play around, then delete it when you are done (after saving it, select "delete" from the "more" menu at the top right). To recover your deleted page, look in the "recent site activity" section at the bottom of the left-hand column. Your deletion of the page will be there. Click the link and it will say "Page has been deleted", with a button you can click to restore the page.

A good thing to learn early is how to undo things you did by mistake. When you're in edit mode, there are two curly arrows at the far left of the toolbar, they are undo and redo.

If you want to add something and can't get it right, email it to Andy.

  • To be notified of changes to a page you're interested in, click "more" at the top right and select "subscribe to page changes". You'll get an email whenever it's edited, or if comments are added. You could subscribe to all changes to the site, but that would give you a lot of emails!
