Environmental Data: On-Line Resources

Data Harvesting Locations & General Comments

There are lots of data sources on the Internet that are relevant to climate data, social data (e.g., census data), and other environmental data. Most government data are being located at public sites so that they are easily (and inexpensively) available. This is a work in progress, as you will see as you attempt to find relevant information.

National Weather Service

A very rich site with lots of data and links to other data services. One product is for major airports only, Available daily: Detailed daily weather statistics (usually for yesterday), including temperature, precipitation, degree days, wind, humidity, sunrise/sunset, and record temperature data for the following day. Precipitation data includes both calendar year and water year totals, percent of normal values, and comparisons to normal. This product is available for up to 2 months. The site also includes predictions and normal data (many stations on each island). Make sure to examine the site map to help find all the information that is available.

Climate Prediction Center

They have lots of stuff. The following are examples.
