Each Field School participant is required to have the following items.

- Tent & ground cloth (or shared)
- Sleeping bag and mat
- Pack (large, carry everything)
- Day Pack
- Flagging tape
- Knife
- Camera (P&S, 10mp, IS, zoom, waterproof, macro, good optics)
- GPS (high sensitivity, stores track points and times, electronic compass, USB)
- Digital distance measure (laser)
- Computer (or use camp netbook)
- Plant cutter
- Field notebooks
- Ziplok bags
- Personal safety kit
- Diameter tape
- Insect repellent
- Sunburn lotion
- Water bottles
- Plant press kit ???
- Clothes (including footwear)
- Rain gear
- Mess kit
- Flashlight

The Field School staff believes that it is important for an individual, especially someone who is pursuing a professional career, to have their own "tools of the trade." Moreover, each individual should be skillful in using these tools.
It is for these reasons that we require individuals to purchase their own equipment.
We have made every attempt to specify the minimum necessary equipment and the most affordable alternatives that meet our professional standards.
Certainly every student who attends the Advanced Skills course should have their own equipment that is at least up to the specifications that we require.
