The '24 Steps kata' also the '24 fighting chickens". This was called Nijushiho by Funakoshi Sensei, and its origins are from Shuri-Te, Ankichi Aragaki.
There are a few variations of this kata, all around the turn, and the 3-part ending.
Hironori Otsuka and Tatsuo Suzuki turn to the outside, we, along with Jiro Otsuka turn to the inside. This tells me that at some point the Wado Ryu Renmei organization after Hironori's death, changed this as Mr. Patterson's organization also follows the Jira inward turn. Also, after the turn and double-punch, we do not do the x-block/right kick, double-soto ukes, and left jodan uke, empi strike that Otsuka does. Even Suzuki's turn version varies there. All versions reconcile back to standard, start at the yokogeri ssection. One other difference, at the end on the three throatgrab, uraken low block hook punches, Otsuka and Suzuki do them in a 'Y' pattern, SW, N, SE; but out school has changed this to be a SW, NE, SE pattern. Jira also follows Otsuka and Suzuki on this, so this likely has been a slight mis-direction/memory we introduced at some point.
Note: Because of its overwhelming use in Wado techniques, if only one hand is mentioned, the other hand is performing a back hikite. Also, unless otherwise mentioned, all jun-tsukis are at the chudan (solar plexus) level.
