Benjamin R. Clifton

Benjamin R. Clifton, son of  Charles H. Clifton and Susan Omarah, was born 14 Mar 1891, and died 06 Dec 1941. He married Chloe West. She was born 29 May 1891, and died 20 Jan 1965.

Child of Benjamin Clifton and Chloe West is:

i. Arlene C. Clifton, born 28 Jun 1919 in Patrick Co, Va; died 02 May 2003. She married John Willard Underwood.

Arlene C. Underwood, 83, of Martinsville, died Friday, May 2, 2003, at The Haven, in Rocky Mount.

She was born June 28, 1919, in Patrick County, the daughter of Ben R. Clifton and Chloe West Clifton, both deceased.

She was a graduate of Meadows of Dan High School and was a retired employee of Globman's Dept. Store. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Cora Lee Bible Sunday School Class and the Young at Heart Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Willard Underwood in 1993.

Surviving are two daughters, Jean U. Mounce and Carol U. Smith, both of the Horsepasture Community; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. James Maddox officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

The family received friends Saturday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services and other times at the homes of the daughters, Carol U. Smith, 4273 Horsepasture-Price Road, Ridgeway, and Jean U. Mounce, 116 Far Point Lane, Ridgeway. Memorial contributions may be made to Franklin County Hospice, 415 S. Main Street, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151.
