A lot of prep and worry as I was glueing and tightening up the braces on the boat. There were 10 cross-pieces to worry about. After gluing them, I tied them up so as to keep the glue setting it the right place. I bought the smallest nails I could find at the hardware store - still too big. Even went to the specialty wood store - nothing there either.
Fletcher came and helped me on a major piece of wood that had broken off/out. It was like a puzzle piece that fits, but not quite. I put several pieces of curved wood taken from the A boat reconstruction (they were not curved enough) and some lead weights to push out, and used the boat wrap to pull in. We had a pull out and pull in at the same time. Sounds complicated - it was - and it still didn't quite fit. The problem is, this break is in the cockpit where I will eventually put my feet.
Next week, fiberglassing the inside of the boat. I will be replacing the original fiberglass strengthening strips (60+ years old) and placing band-aid strips where I patched cracks; they will reinforce the gluing; they will be on the inside of the boat. Long range, the entire boat will get a light fiberglass on the outside. We will NOT be removing the keel to put the glass on as I am afraid of running into more problems when/if I could remove it (there is a notch, and a screw, but it seems rather dubious reward for high risk).
