Don came over with his sander and he ground off the worst of the drips. Still not good. He also instructed me to SAND the boat before I put on another layer of varnish.
Tonight, while I was getting ready to do that, Steve W swung by. He not only gave me some great advice but pitched in and helped me sand a bit. He also offered to make a wood piece I need. He thought, maybe, he could sand and add another layer of varnish while I was gone.
After he left, I followed his advice: sanded a bit more, dusted off the bottom with a brush and a cloth; took some mineral spirits and wiped off the bottom of the boat; finally used a tack cloth to wipe off the bottom - then I painted the varnish. Looks wonderful.
I packed up a lot while I was waiting for the mineral spirits to dry.
After painting, I continued to take things downstairs and then to the car.
He suggested two things:
take off the edge of the U-shaped pieces we have that support the center stringer that supports the cover. If we don't take off the edges, I could agree with his prediction, we'd poke a hole in the cover.
Second, tape the edge of the boat with blue tape to protect it when we put on the cover. Maybe even the gunnel.
