95718 Professional Speaking

Not so much a "speaking" course as a business communication course, Professional Speaking is designed to help students be more competent and confident in both their academic and professional careers. This is the course I began my teaching career with in 2003, and is now a non-exemptable core course. We cover the usual suspects -- as expected, there's a lot of presenting in the class -- but we also cover argument, influence, persuasion, meeting leadership, and most important, critical thinking. Because while it's important to be able to present well, it's even more important to have something worth presenting. A sample syllabus is below.
