The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.
Professional Learning and ethical practice is essential to teaching. To satisfy this standard is to constantly reflect on teaching strategies and student learning. In order to do this, the teacher must be able to self-assess and use data to reflect on student needs. In addition, teachers are to use feedback from observations to grow and to develop as a teacher in order to best serve the students and actively seeks out feedback and resources from other teachers, students and parents. Lastly, the teacher is able to remove bias from their teaching and take opportunities to deepen their understanding of culture, gender, language, abilities, etc. in order to better serve the students and the community.
These things are to be done in an ethical way, such as, appropriate use of social media with the students, understanding laws and policies, and safe use of technology in the classroom.
The first artifact I will use is the team meeting minutes to showcase team collaboration on student concerns. These meetings happen weekly, and sometimes twice a week, and satisfies, "The teacher seeks and reflects upon feedback from colleagues to evaluate the effects of his/her action on learners, colleagues, and community members".
The second artifact I will use is the sample Danielson Rubric provided to me by my CT. My CT wanted me to understand the process of this type of evaluation and show me how to effectively reflect on lessons. This satisfies, "The teacher gathers, synthesizes and analyzes a variety of data from sources inside and outside the school to adapt instructional practices and other professional behaviors to better meet learners' needs."
