The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.
To satisfy this standard means that the teacher is always looking for ways to learn from other teachers, and staff and to in turn bring new information and skills to those same teachers and staff. Additionally, teachers use many different resources to support the curriculum and to help students connect to the material. Lastly, teachers connect with the community in order to better serve the students in their class.
This standard has been the hardest for me to meet since I am not a teacher at this school. However, I have made efforts to assist with anything I can in planning team events, helping with school-wide fundraisers and taking the initiative to be a team player, not just with the staff but the kids as well. In addition, I try to participate in PTC, 504 reevaluation meetings, and other staff meetings and professional development. For example, "10(r) The teacher takes initiative to grow and develop with colleagues through interactions that enhance practice and support student learning. " Additionally, this teacher was able to use reflections from her CT and self-reflections to make changes and look for different ways to support learning and teaching. For example, "10(t) The teacher embraces the challenge of continuous improvement and change." An artifact to use to show that this standard has been satisfied would be part of the student teaching evaluation from my CT indicating this or our team meeting minutes showing this teacher's participation in leadership and collaboration roles.
The first artifact I will use is a thank you note from the school for spending my time helping with their school fundraiser. This satisfies, "The teacher participates in school-wide efforts to implement a shared vision and contributes to a supportive culture".
The second artifact I will use is an example of a weekly email sent to parents during my time as the student teacher, as well as the letter to parents. This supports, "The teacher uses technology and other forms of communication to develop collaborative relationships with learners, families, colleagues and the local community".
