The teacher plans instruction that supports every student in meeting rigorous learning goals by drawing upon knowledge of content areas, curriculum, cross-disciplinary skills, and pedagogy, as well as knowledge of learners and the community context.
Standard 7, planning for instruction, focuses on performances by the teacher that support student learning. Student learning is a reflection on teacher planning for instruction in order to meet the needs of each student. This includes working with the department to collaborate on ideas for assessments, understanding where each student is academically as well as personally in order to understand their learning goals, providing menus for students to choose how they want to share their end results, and the teacher uses resources and students learning needs to plan instructions. Additionally, there is essential knowledge that the teacher must have to satisfy this standard, such as, understanding content, integrating cross-disciplinary skills, individual differences, effective teaching strategies, how to adapt the lesson based on moments in class, and how to use resources available to them. Lastly, there are critical dispositions to meet this standard, such as, respecting learners, takes the learners families into consideration, uses short and long term planning, and the knowledge of adjusting plans.
An example that would satisfy this standard for my professional portfolio could be an assignment that gives the students a menu to choose from to showcase their knowledge, as well as a menu of readings to choose from to satisfy the standards for that lesson. Something I could use in my class is just last week I added in videos to help my students gain a better understanding of the content, as well as providing audio versions of the novel we are reading in class.
As stated before for other standards, I was able to use Nearpod, Google Classroom, and Google docs. Students in the classes during my student teacher were fortunate enough to have access to a computer everyday. The second artifact will showcase the things learned in the professional development day to better use technology in the classroom.
