The University of Pittsburgh's Global Studies Center (GSC) was established in 2001 as a joint offering of the University Center for International Studies (UCIS) and the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA). The program develops global competence in students, educators, and members of the community at-large. GSC promotes interdisciplinary and cross-cultural learning and research in six areas of concentration: changing identities in a global world; communication, technology, and society; conflict and conflict resolution; global economy and global governance; global health; and sustainable development. GSC is a National Resource Center as designated by the Department of Education.

"Feeding people healthy fruit is at the core of everything we do at Domex Superfresh Growers®."

Domex Superfresh Growers have been farming the land in eastern Washington for over 125 years and share the same American farming family values as the many Superfresh growers who grow fruit for the Domex Superfresh Growers brand. Namely, to grow and deliver safe and healthy fruit to families around the world. They live by their slogan, “We are the Force Behind Fresh®.” Their people, from the orchards to the loading docks, are the connected force behind innovation, flavor, and quality. They strive to deliver flavorful, high quality apples, pears, cherries, apricots, blueberries, and kiwi berries to families around the world.

The Asian Studies Center is a global resource for research and education about Asia, as well as a regional center for building Asian connections. In partnership with over 100 affiliated faculty from across the university, we develop innovative research, foster community engagement, and create rigorous academic programming. Founded in 1969, the Center is widely recognized as one of the most comprehensive programs in Asian studies, with a focus on regional, transnational, and interdisciplinary scholarship.

The Center for Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies (REEES) at the University of Pittsburgh is an interdisciplinary center focused on Central and Eastern Europe and the successor states of the Soviet Union. As a Title VI National Resource Center (NRC) funded by the US Department of Education, REEES plays a critical role in promoting regionally focused scholarship and teaching on Pitt’s campus and raising knowledge and awareness about our part of the world among wider communities in the Pittsburgh area and beyond. REEES-associated faculty come from the humanities, social sciences, and professional schools such as law, business, education, public health, public and international affairs, and engineering. Aside from facilitating scholarship in the region, the Center also develops and supports student programs focused on foreign language acquisition, cultural immersion, and interdisciplinary area studies certificates to complement traditional disciplinary degrees.  Furthermore, the Center has played a key role to support technical and economic development in the countries of our region. Looking beyond Pitt, our numerous domestic and international partner institutions and associates provide additional resources to help support study abroad programs, visiting scholars, and other activities.

The European Studies Center (ESC) was established in 1984 and is charged with the university-wide responsibility of coordinating and developing scholarship and teaching related to Europe. The Center promotes the study of Europe at the University of Pittsburgh by developing new courses, lectures, symposia, and conferences with international participants. Center research foci include comparative public policy, social and intellectual history, multiculturalism in Europe, questions of identity, and Europe’s historical and contemporary role in the world.

The ESC is one of six international and area studies centers within the University Center for International Studies (UCIS), identified by the Council on Learning as one of the exemplary international studies programs in the United States. The Center offers Certificates in European Union Studies and West European Studies that enhance students’ overall academic achievements and degree programs. Through its outreach efforts, the Center also builds relationships within the University community, the business community, policy-makers, and community organizations

A constituent part of the European Studies Center, the Jean Monnet European Union Center of Excellence (JMEUCE), promotes the study of the EU, its institutions and policies and EU-US relations through teaching programs, scholarly research and outreach activities in their local and regional communities.  The JMEUCE was established in 1998, when the University of Pittsburgh won a national competition to host a European Union Center.  Since 1998, the University of Pittsburgh has been successful in each renewal competition, to be one of only ten European Union Centers of Excellence in the United States.
