Steaming Light Rope Guard

One of the most annoying problems has a simple fix.  We have all been there.  We go to raise or lower a sail only to find the halyard snagged around the steaming light.

There are commercially available rope guards...but you know us....why buy something when you can make it for much more difficulty and labor!

This was actually a fun little project and I got to try out my oxy-propane torch.  Now I have to start out by saying that I melted my first attempt pretty badly.  The lower loop split in two and the upper arm melted into too short of a piece.

Round Two:  A little less heat and a thinner brazing rod seem to do the trick.  You could also use silver solder and a soldering iron.  So here is how it's done:
