Preventer

When you are sailing downwind you don't want to unexpectedly jibe because your sailboat contains a lethal weapon...the boom.  When I'm sailing single handed on the Christopher-Jin I always attach The Preventer when sailing downwind.

The Preventer makes use of the second set of extra holes in the stanchions.  If your boat does not have these extra holes than you can purchase stanchion mounted blocks to carry The Preventer line aft to the cockpit.
