September 2022

Huge congratulations to student Finn Grassie who took his ATCL piano diploma and achieved a Distinction result and a glowing exam report. The programme included two Scarlatti sonatas, Debussy's Images book 1, Tchaikovsky's Dumka and Copland's The Cat and The Mouse. The diploma recital is the culmination of a lot of study, and various very enjoyable performances at our piano evenings. Well done Finn.

2022

Our first piano evenings since the pandemic have been wonderful and have included a huge spectrum of music, and one online attendee-performer for the first time! Really looking forward to our concert outing together to see Yuja Wang at the Royal Festival Hall soon. Lots of video-based Performance Grade success the last few terms with various well-deserved distinctions, and now a mix of preparing practical and performance grades, diplomas and concerts, and teaching a mix of online and in-person lessons.

2021

I am really missing our Performance Evenings but everyone has coped so well with the online teaching due to Covid, with many students flying even higher than before, maybe due to some extra practice time!

Students have recently taken the new Performance Grades offered by ABRSM as well as some face to face exams in the latter part of 2020. Success includes distinctions at Grade 8 for both Joshua and Flora, distinction at grade 7 for Kai Jing, distinction at grade 6 for Morgan and distinction at grade 4 for Esther. Jing Shuen also received a distinction at grade 4 with 143 marks, one of the highest results we have ever seen, with a lot of her work completed by the new video assessment lesson model in conjunction with live video call lessons. I never knew it would work this well...Well done team!

Having not posted for a while many wonderful things have happened in the interim! A few highlights...Kai Jing achieved 142 marks for his grade 4 in 2019. Daphne achieved her DipABRSM, the first full piano diploma, which is an amazing achievement to have come up to that level before the end of full time education. Daphne has just been given a place to study Music at Cambridge University. Congratulations Daphne! Students are now preparing for their Young Musicians’ Showcase auditions with many wonderful performances at the last concert including a beautifully played Bach Gigue by Joshua Reid. Looking forward to lots of fun and rewarding teaching and learning in 2020.
