End of academic year 2015-2016

What a wonderful year, with many highlights including some wonderful piano performance evenings together, triumphs at Mid Sussex Competitive Music Festival and the Young Musicians' Showcase, as well as ABRSM exam success. We say farewell to Finn Grassie who delighted us all with his last performance at the summer piano evening with Debussy's Reflets dans l'eau. Finn goes on to study in the Junior department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in September, studying bass as well as piano. Good luck Finn!

Congratulations to Katie Phillips, 17, who recently passed her Piano Recital Diploma in Performance, with an amazing result of 94%. The exam included the presentation of a 30-minute piano recital from memory (including works by Scarlatti, Debussy, Schubert, Schumann and Prokofiev). We were all treated to Katie's recital programme at the last Performance Evenings. Thank you and well done to Katie!

Concert trip in the Autumn Term

posted 17 Jul 2013, 03:45 by Caroline Tyler

We have booked a trip to see Michael Roll as the soloist in Beethoven's 4th Piano Concerto with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Brighton Dome. There will be 25 of us going linked to Caroline Tyler Piano School, which I am delighted about. Very much looking forward to sharing what will no doubt be a wonderful experience of high quality piano playing.

Summer exams

Congratulations to both exam students this term Madeleine Taylor (grade 5) and George Delfas (grade 6), both with Distinction. The examiner added extra comments congratulating them; the stylish and idiomatic details of the playing were remarked upon, as well as the performances being beautifully voiced, musical and 'lovingly played!'. Very well done to you both.

Young Musicians Showcase

Well done to students Madeleine Taylor and Ella Burton for their beautiful performances of Daydream by Tchaikovsky and Nalada by Fibich, at the Showcase. Also huge congratulations to Katie Phillips who gave a mature and moving account of Debussy's Cathedrale Engloutie, a Diploma standard piece, from memory. All three students auditioned for the concert in February and worked hard to keep up a great standard of playing to perform in front of a large audience at St Wilfrid's Church on Saturday. Well done team!

Haywards Heath Music Society, who promote professional classical music in the area as well as running the Showcase, were so impressed with Katie's performance that she was invited to play at their AGM. Each year they usually choose a promising young musician from the area to give a performance. A huge compliment and testament to Katie's talent and hard work!

Barbican Centre trip

posted 8 May 2012, 02:39 by Caroline Tyler

We took a group of students to the Barbican Centre on 2nd May to hear the Guildhall Gold Medal, a competition for conservatoire students from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where Grace and I and our deputy teachers studied. We thoroughly enjoyed Tchaikovsky and Liszt concertos by piano and violin students. It's great to hear performance at such a high standard to inspire and motivate us, and also just to be uplifted by the music as listeners. Thank you for joining us if you came to the trip and be encouraged to join us next time when we listen to more professional music making!
