Unit1: Learn Negation Particles 不 、没有

Learning Objectives

In this section, we will learn the grammatical forms and functions of two negation adverbs (called particles here) in Mandarin Chinese, 不 v. 没 and their variation 不是 and 没有。 You will see three-parts of a narrated PPT that presents the two particles in similar situations and explaining their differences. Particularly to illustrate the grammatical functions are film clips as examples.

Specifically, see the three videos below and the accompanying PowerPoint slides. The embedded video clips are not available in the PPT slides while they do show in the narrated videos. If you are a teacher making use of these materials, you should be able to find these films in your libraries or at Chinese streaming sites.

The specific goals are:

•Understand the meaning and typical grammar patterns of 不/没.

•Develop advanced proficiency by understanding authentic examples to illustrate the different functions of negation in Chinese.

•Learn formulaic expressions.
