Modal:能、会、要、想、得、可以、应该

How do you express such ideas as "can", "may", "will", "is/are going to", "have to", "should" in Mandarin Chinese? What are the differences between giving permission vs. making assessments? What are the differences between stating your own ability vs. asking about others' ability? What are the differences between estimating ability vs.  estimating likelihood of events to take place? What are the Chinese ways of inquiring about one's abilities and asking for permission and stating obligations?

Similar to English that uses "may, might, should, ought to, must, have to, can, etc." to convey such ideas, Mandarin also has a group of words called "modal verbs" with a similar range of functions. They are called 助动词 zhùdòngcí. In this Module, we will learn these 助动词: 能,会,要,想,得, 可以,应该.
