Unit2: Practice Discourse Particles

Learning Objectives

This section follows up on the "Learn" Unit of our series on Mandarin discourse particles 也、还、都、又、再。In this "Practice" Unit, you will be led to practice the grammatical forms and functions the five adverb particles.  You will see five parts of a narrated PPT that include rich and engaging exercises based on authentic language examples. 

Practice your skills with these important grammatical tools by following along with the instructional videos below.  The accompanying PowerPoint slides are also available on this page. The embedded video clips are not available in the PPT slides while they do show in the narrated videos. If you are a teacher making use of these materials, you should be able to find these films in your libraries or at Chinese streaming sites. 

The specific goals are: 

• Grasp the meanings and functions of these five discourse particles. 

• Be able to use these particles effectively and use them as a system of tools for building discourse cohesion and conveying stance.

• Develop advanced proficiency by understanding authentic examples.

• Learn formulaic expressions.
