Many people around the world would say the U.S. President is the most powerful person on Earth. I'm not talking about Trump or Biden individually, but the Office of the President of the United States. Do you agree or disagree with that statement? Turn and discuss for 1 minute with someone around you.
Who else would you put on the list for most powerful people on Earth, and why? Turn and discuss.
Now spend about 3 minutes brainstorming with your partner and come up with a list of things a president does on a daily basis, or other responsibilities of their job. How many can you come up with? List them on the board and see how many you can come up with as a class.
Each of you is going to get one of the following roles of the President. Your goal is to find 2-3 responsibilities of the POTUS, briefly explain each, and find a real world example of a president completing this task. For example, you could say, "In 1962, President Kennedy fulfilled the role of Chief Legislator when he ..." Be somewhat specific. It can be from the past couple presidents or from any point in U.S. history.
Once you've finished your section, move around and see if you can fill in something for each role. Make a copy of the following Google Doc for your own personal use.Â
Once you've got each box filled in, rank them in order of most important to least based on your own personal opinion.
